A Photo Finish – Elsie Silver

5/5 Stars.

“I realize she might be everything. The light at the end of the dark tunnel. The sunshine my dark existence so desperately needs.”

A Photo Finish by @AuthorElsieSilver is the second novel in the Gold Rush Ranch series following Off to the Races and the novella, Out of the Gate. Following Violet, who we’ve met in Off to the Races, and Cole, Vaughn’s veteran older brother, this romance novel did not disappoint.

When Cole moves to the ranch for work, he runs into Violet, someone who he’s known over the internet for a long time. With a growing attraction and an even deeper emotional connection, Cole and Violet attempt to stay platonic while forced to work together. When forced into a living situation, their relationship grows more complicated as Cole struggles to get through PTSD and emotional damage. All the while, Violet is determined to flourish into the girl she’s always wanted to be. They might clash, but they can’t seem to stay away from each other. Every time they’re pushed closer, more problems arise.

In this interconnected standalone, a wounded hero is given a second chance with the one person who sees him when he couldn’t see himself.

Elsie Silver is the queen of writing amazing heroine characters, and this book did not disappoint. Violet was a strong heroine, funny with a mouth on her. Every word that she spoke was deliberate, even when it was blurted out. As she grows into herself, she realizes her worth in a light that isn’t always seen in a lot of contemporary romance. Violet flourished beautifully between the two novels, and I was not disappointed.

Cole was phenomenal. New book boyfriend, for sure. Am I surprised? Absolutely not. The character development throughout this book was outstanding. With a damaged emotional background, there were also twists that I didn’t expect. His story runs so deep, and it was a pleasure getting to know him through this book. Although, I think I may have a new type because of him.

This story was everything I expected it to be and more, and I flew through it just as I did with the rest of Elsie Silver’s books. I thought nothing could top Off to the Races. I think I might’ve been wrong????

I think I love them all??? I love them all.

I’m astonished with how much I loved this book, and I really need someone else to read them so I can talk about it with someone else. If you like small town tropes, slow burns, wounded heroes, second chance romances… like, just read this book. Read them all. Please????

Anyway… I loved A Photo Finish by Elsie Silver, and I’m so excited to read more of her work in the future.

As always, leave a comment below if you’ve read A Photo Finish or any other Elsie Silver books, and if you haven’t, make sure to get A Photo Finish when it’s released on August 13th!
