For His Own Protection – Shae Coon

4.5/5 Stars.

For His Own Protection is the third book in the Marron House series following Lizzy Marron, a badass ex-cop who took a job working for her brother, Caleb Marron, at M.H.S, the security company that he runs. When M.H.S is hired by the mother of Ethan Kendry, a successful night-club owner, after his safety is threatened, Lizzy takes on her first official job. While trying to keep Ethan safe, Lizzy and Ethan butt heads despite their unspoken attraction to one another. When they finally allow their feelings to take over, the couple doesn’t anticipate the hardships that follow them. In this captivating work by Shae Coon, an independent, bad-ass woman and a strong, successful man struggle to do the right thing for their relationship while also doing the job at hand.

When I first read Lizzy Marron in Controlling Assets, I instantly knew that she was a bad-ass, and I loved her. I was so excited to read this book, and Lizzy did NOT disappoint. With OCD, Lizzy Marron is still one of the most kick-ass woman in romance today. She’s hilarious, unfiltered, intelligent and strong. Ethan Kendry had a lot of character development in this book. While he was more of a rich, carefree playboy in the beginning with a love for the clubbing scene, he grew throughout this book. He figured out what life means to him, and I’m pretty sure I’m in love with Ethan, so…

Let’s talk plot! If you read my review for Controlling Assets in July, you’ll know that while I loved the plot in that book, there were scenes that I personally felt were harder for me to get through. OKAY, BUT GUYS. This book exceeded my expectations. I had a feeling I was going to love this plot, but I didn’t know it would be like this!!! I couldn’t put it down and was itching to get back to this book when I was out and about. From the very beginning, Lizzy and Ethan had me hooked. Once the suspenseful part really kicked in, I was on high alert, adrenaline rushing through my veins. I wasn’t worried though. Lizzy and Ethan are bad-asses. And while the spicy scenes in C.A. weren’t my thing entirely, the spicy scenes in this book had me blushing and fanning myself. Like DAMN that was hot.

Okay I was a little worried. And the epilogue GOT ME. I was really about to cry.

It was great to see characters from past books, and I’m so excited to read the last book in the series. (IYKYK, he’s the love of my life.) You should all check out the Marron House series–binge it, get ready for this book. It comes out on September 15th! Thanks to Shae Coon for the ARC of For His Own Protection.
